Energy savings in Southern California for the long haul
Not many states in the US take energy conservation and efficiency as seriously as California. This is why Premier SIPs has been working with builders and architects here since the 1970s. Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) are appreciated by homeowners, home builders, and designers alike primarily due to their energy efficiency. But SIP’s better indoor air quality (IAQ) for occupants and reduced construction waste will also leave you feeling proud of your work.
Building with SIPs is the easiest framing method to meet or exceed building code requirements for air infiltration, R-values, and continuous insulation, as well as the standards of high-performance energy enclosures. Proven to go up 50% faster than stick framing, the panels are manufactured under factory-controlled conditions and can be fabricated to fit nearly any building design. If you aren’t designing or building with SIPs already, it is time to consider an upgrade.
Consistent, strong, and easy to install, Premier SIPs consist of:
- An insulating, expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam core
- Two sheets of oriented strand board (OSB), laminated to either side of the EPS
- A structural adhesive
This engineered system provides an extremely strong insulated wall panel that needs no additional frame or skeleton for support.

Design better, creative commercial and residential buildings with SIPs
SIPs are a great fit for commercial builders and developers, especially those with revenue generating properties. Structural Insulated Panels are well-insulated and virtually airtight, which help a commercial building reduce maintenance and utility costs, while delivering increased comfort and a healthier, safer (no mold, less dust mites, reduced pollutants, and allergens impacting health) indoor environment. As a builder, one of the primary objectives is to occupy the building as quickly as possible, and a SIP building can be assembled very quickly – much faster than a conventionally built structure.
When it comes to home designs, Mediterranean floor plans are very popular in Southern California. These open floor plans allow for easy flow between the dining, kitchen and living room. Thankfully, SIPs are manufactured in sections up to 8’ x 24’, making them ideal to use with high wall and ceiling designs. SIP roofs can typically span across the open areas and cantilever creating overhangs, while eliminating the need for trusses or more framing.
These long spans also help on the commercial side translating into fewer columns, posts, and beams, which are typically required for structural support. Larger SIPs can be used (Jumbo Panels) to cover more area per piece, requiring less hardware to be used (nails, panel screws, straps, etc.). What’s more, the panels reduce the time it takes to build a structure.
